Meet Dr. Craig Wetterer

Dr. Craig Wetterer stands at the intersection of profound expertise in both clinical psychology and law, making him a multifaceted professional with a wealth of experience. Licensed to practice law continuously in California since 2007, Dr. Wetterer earned his Juris Doctorate from William Taft University School of Law, enhancing his capacity to navigate the complexities of legal and psychological realms. A licensed clinical psychologist in Nevada and California, Dr. Wetterer obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA, in 2015. Complementing this, he holds an MA (2001) and BA (1996) from California State University, Sacramento.

Dr. Wetterer's clinical training is marked by a focus on neuropsychological and forensic assessment, coupled with interventions targeting acute stress, trauma, and PTSD. In 2023, he furthered his qualifications by earning a Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology (MSCP) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. His diverse professional journey has taken him through various practice settings, including correctional facilities, a police & public safety practice, neuropsychological and forensic assessment clinics, and a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital. Currently, he conducts forensic psychological assessments in multiple states. 

In academia, Dr. Wetterer serves as an Associate Professor at California Northstate University (College of Psychology) and holds a Community Faculty position as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine. His commitment to advancing knowledge is further evident through his active engagement in clinical research at CNU. Adding a unique layer to his background, Dr. Wetterer spent 28 years in law enforcement as a police officer, culminating in his role at the Sacramento Police Department. This extensive experience not only underscores his dedication to public service but also enriches his ability to comprehend and address the diverse needs of the individuals he serves.

As an applied clinical scientist, professor, and researcher, Dr. Wetterer has developed expertise in a number of areas, including forensic and neuropsychological assessment, and the treatment of severe anxiety and mood disorders across a diverse client population. Moreover, as a former peace officer with 28 years of field experience, Dr. Wetterer is uniquely qualified to offer psychological services in the police & public safety domains. He currently offers pre-employment screenings, fitness for duty evaluations, and psychotherapy to first responders. Dr. Wetterer is licensed to practice psychology in Nevada and California, and law in California. Through the interjurisdictional agreements through PSYPACT, Dr. Wetterer and Dr. Anderson are able to offer forensic evaluation services via remote/telehealth technology in 38 states. 

General Psychological Evaluations 

General psychological evaluations involve methods to assess an individual's behavior, personality, cognitive abilities, and several other domains. We offer comprehensive psychological evaluations aimed at identifying strengths, limitations, and problem areas with a focus on identifying treatment strategies aimed at reducing suffering. 

Forensic assessment is a category of psychological assessment that is used to aid a legal fact finder and is one of the most common applications of psychology to the law, prevalent in a variety of legal settings. We offer assessment and consultation services, including competence, criminal responsibility, emotional injury, and risk evaluation. 

Neuropsychological Assessment

Neuropsychological assessment evaluates brain dysfunction's impact on an individual's cognitive, sensorimotor, emotional, and adaptive capacities, aiming to provide useful information about their functioning in their environment. Our practice offers a full range of neuropsychological assessments. 

Police & Public Safety Psychology

Police and public safety psychology is concerned with assisting law enforcement and other public safety personnel and agencies in carrying out their missions and societal functions with effectiveness, safety, health and conformity to laws and ethics. We offer pre-employment & fitness for duty evaluations.

Adult Psychotherapy 

Dr. Wetterer has extensive experience treating a wide range of psychological problems; he utilizes evidence based and empirically supported treatment approaches with a primary theoretical orientation grounded in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Rational-Emotive Behavior (REBT) therapy.

Psychodiagnostic Clinical Evaluation Service Available

This evaluation is great for individuals who are in a drug or alcohol treatment program and are referred from parole or probation to be assessed by a forensic psychologist to determine if there is any other impairment. Evaluations include a one-to-two-page summary of findings. Book a diagnostic evaluation for a differential diagnosis or a second opinion. Most individuals go through 7 different trials of medication only to find out they were not diagnosed properly or misdiagnosed. Get an accurate diagnosis before you see a psychiatrist or begin psychotherapy. The evaluation cost is $450.00 and includes a clinical interview, administration of standardized testing (MCMI-IV), and a written report with any diagnostic impressions and recommendations for treatment, if needed.
